Fear is synonymous with being frightened, afraid, worried, scared. Fear can render a person unproductive, make them lose focus, and they are totally not in control of their actions.

Most times, I'd say 80% of the time, we fear the unknown; we fear things we have little or no control over. We fear the "what ifs" Fear is a universal thing, such that phobia has been dedicated to its cause. And phobia according to an article on Google, is termed the fear of a thing that is unlikely to cause harm.

When we feel fear, more often than not, we have ourselves paralyzed, unable to move beyond that point. Fear holds us hostage. Hostage of our own thoughts. We become hostage to our "what ifs" when we succumb to fear, it ruins the day, the whole week, an hour, that we cannot get back. It can never be restored.

Let's look at this scenario; you locked your door before going to bed to retire for the night, while lying to get some good sleep, something creeps into your mind that, your door is unlocked. Now, let's say it is the rainy season and it can be windy, right? You get scared that your door will be blown wide open and creatures will/might creep in to you house, then in to your room, and then on your bed. BOOM!!! You get scared, the fear of the unknown.

You have no idea what would happen and those couple of minutes got ruined, your heart raced faster than it would have at that point in time. People do say, you're not afraid of the dark; you're afraid of what's in the dark, when in reality, there is nothing in the dark, just space; an empty one!

Most of these fears, feelings of fear, phobias come from our imagination, our own over thinking.

The one step I think we should all take to overcome fear is to not create imaginary/fake scenarios in our heads, do not think of the worst possibilities. Let your mind and mouth say the best possible things about every situation and in every situation.

And when fear does creep in, what can be done? Face it, face it. You can say it out loud like this; Yes,I know I'm scared of … but, that will not ruin my day. I will not tremble because of what I do not know and what I have no control over. I will rather put my trust in the creator of heaven and earth, who knows and can change all things.

With less of our over thinking, putting our trust in God; you and I can overcome and have victory over our fears.

Have you ever experienced a paralyzing fear, how did you handle that situation?
